Diadermal Arising/Passing explores the fluid and impermanent nature of form, and its shifting boundaries. Installed at Te Wai Ngutu Kaka Gallery, the work reflected on the emergence and dissolution of form, and the conditions through which a sense of self takes shape. A delicate accumulation of cellulose rice paper merges with a horizontal field of recycled plastic, creating a sculptural encounter between fragile organic forms and a translucent, fractured substrate. Demarcated viewing platforms invite the viewer to move through the installation and encounter its shifting perspectives. Natural light revealed the materials' diaphanous qualities, accentuating the interplay of transparency, opacity, and permeability. Creases, folds and fractures became traces of material transformation, suggesting the momentary stabilisation of something fundamentally fluid, identity as a continually arising and passing phenomenon.
